Why Source Handicrafts from Nepal?

Nepal is one of the world's richest sources of authentic handmade products, with centuries-old craft traditions and a thriving artisan community.

Fair Trade Practices

Our artisan partners receive fair wages that support their families and communities. Many workshops are run by women's cooperatives, providing economic independence and empowerment in rural Nepal. Every purchase supports sustainable livelihoods.

Unique Craftsmanship

Nepali handicrafts are made using techniques that cannot be replicated by machines — hand-hammered singing bowls, mineral-pigment thangka paintings, lost-wax cast bronze statues. Each piece is genuinely unique, with the subtle variations that prove authentic handwork.

Competitive Pricing

Direct sourcing from Kathmandu workshops eliminates multiple layers of middlemen. Combined with Nepal's competitive labor costs and trade preference programs (duty-free access to EU, US GSP), you get exceptional handmade products at prices that allow healthy retail margins.

Centuries-Old Traditions

Nepal's craft traditions span millennia — Patan's metalworkers have been casting bronze since the 3rd century, pashmina weaving dates to the 15th century, and Lokta papermaking has been documented for over 1,000 years. When you source from Nepal, you are connecting your customers to living history.

What Our Buyers Say

Trusted by boutique retailers, yoga studios, gift shops, and fair trade stores worldwide.

“We stock over 200 Buddha statues from Nepal Metal Art and the quality is exceptional. The lost-wax casting produces detail that our customers immediately notice compared to machine-made alternatives. Our best sellers are the 8-inch gold-plated Shakyamuni Buddhas — the fire-gilding finish is stunning. Reorders are seamless and they maintain consistency across batches.”

“I commissioned a set of custom Nataraja statues for a boutique hotel lobby in Stockholm. Nepal Metal Art translated my vision perfectly — the 30-inch bronze Nataraja with antique patina finish became the centerpiece of the entire design. They sent progress photos at every stage and delivered on time. The hotel guests constantly photograph it. I have since ordered pieces for three more projects.”

“We have been importing metal statues from Patan for over a decade and Nepal Metal Art is our most reliable supplier. Their Hindu deity statues follow proper iconographic proportions which is critical for our temple clients. The Ganesh and Lakshmi statues are consistently our top sellers. Pricing is competitive and they understand the religious requirements that matter to our market.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the lost-wax (cire perdue) casting process?
Lost-wax casting is an ancient metalworking technique perfected in Patan, Nepal over 1,000 years ago. A sculptor creates a detailed wax model of the statue, encases it in clay, heats the mold to melt out the wax (hence 'lost wax'), and pours molten metal into the resulting cavity. After cooling, the clay mold is broken away and the statue is hand-finished by master chasers. This method produces highly detailed, one-of-a-kind pieces that cannot be replicated by industrial methods.
What metals are used for casting statues?
Our statues are cast in bronze (copper-tin alloy, the most traditional and durable), brass (copper-zinc alloy, brighter golden color), or pure copper (develops a beautiful reddish patina). All three metals can be further finished with 24K gold plating, silver plating, or antique patina treatments. Bronze is the most popular choice for its rich color and time-tested durability.
What is the minimum order quantity for wholesale?
Minimum order quantities vary by statue type and size. Standard designs start at 5-10 pieces per design per size. Custom commissions can be as low as 1 piece. For first-time buyers, we offer sample orders of 1-3 pieces at retail pricing so you can assess quality before committing to wholesale volumes.
How long does production take?
Production timelines depend on size and complexity. Small statues (2-6 inches) take 4-6 weeks. Medium statues (8-18 inches) take 6-10 weeks. Large statues (24-48 inches) take 10-16 weeks. Custom commissions require additional time for design approval. We provide production update photographs throughout the process.
What is the difference between fire gilding and electroplating?
Fire gilding (mercury gilding) is the traditional method — mercury-gold amalgam is applied and heated to burn off the mercury, leaving a permanent, lustrous gold layer that lasts centuries. It is the most durable option but expensive. Electroplating deposits a thin layer of gold using electrical current — it is more affordable and produces an excellent finish, but the gold layer is thinner. Both options are available; fire gilding is recommended for museum-quality and temple pieces.
